Four new Canons to be installed in Salisbury Cathedral

Four new Canons will be installed in Salisbury Cathedral by the Bishop of Salisbury, the Right Revd Nicholas Holtam, during Evensong at 5.30pm on Thursday 12 January 2012.

Mrs Marcia Headon and Mr Gil Williams have accepted the Bishop of Salisbury’s invitation to be installed as Lay Canons of the Cathedral, and the Revd Andrew Studdert-Kennedy and the Revd John Wood have accepted his invitation to be installed as Non-Residentary Canons.

Each Canon is allocated their own stall in the Quire of the Cathedral.  Marcia Headon, an education expert and member of the Dorset Probation Trust Board, will occupy ‘Weymouth’. Gil Williams, a member of Bishop’s Council and Chairman of the Diocesan Board of Finance, will occupy ‘Yetminster Prima’.  Andrew Studdert-Kennedy, Rural Dean of Marlborough Deanery and passionate about the church engaging with its local communities, will occupy ‘Hurstborne & Burbage’. John Wood, Rural Dean of Purbeck with a special interest in the use of music in liturgy will occupy ‘Beminster Prima’.
