May Day celebrated with time honoured tradition in Ansty

Ansty May Day

May Day was celebrated with time honoured tradition in Ansty with a procession, Maypole dancing, Morris dancing and the crowning of the new May Queen.

This year’s May Queen was nine-year-old Lydia Paines, from Semley Primary School. Her attendant was Gabriel Spencer-Smith from Chilmark and Fonthill Bishop Primary School.

Master of Ceremonies Robert Baker led the procession of the May Queen and the dancers from The Commandery to the Maypole where the new May Queen was officially crowned and held aloft by the dancers from The White Horse Morris.
