Old Sarum Landscapes Project

Old Sarum and the landscape around it, is the subject of a research project started in 2014 run by Kristian Strutt at the Archaeology Department at Southampton University and Dr Alex Langlands.

2019

The 2019 dig is underway and concludes with the presentation of finds at Salisbury Festival of Archaeology on 13-14 July 2019.

2017

University students returned to the site in July 2017 for geophysical surveying, field walking and excavation.

Trenches investigating a possible prehistoric ditch and an embankment associated with the western suburb of Old Sarum turned up some interesting finds included a 13th century water pitcher, a whetstone, animal bones and a decorative copper alloy brooch or buckle pin.
