Rock Against Cancer at the Kings Arms, All Cannings

Following last year’s sold out success ‘Concert At The Kings’ is back for its fifth year to continue raising awareness and funds to fight cancer. Performances include The SAS Band (plus special guests), Suzi Quatro and True Heights. The event will take place at The Kings Arms in All Cannings on Saturday 21 May.

In 2010, John “Grubby” Callis (sound engineer to none other than Paul McCartney) and Andy Scott (Sweet) were discussing how they’d both been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in The Kings Arms when Landlord Richard Baulu joined the conversation. Their determination to fight the disease brought them together and after two years of planning, they put on their first rock concert to raise awareness and funds for cancer charities.

John “Grubby” Callis said: “When Andy and I were talking about our diagnosis we never thought something like this would come of it. To get the likes of Brian May and Bob Geldof to a small village in Wiltshire has been phenomenal and the fact we’ve now raised over £100,000 is beyond what we could have ever expected. We’re really excited about this year’s line-up, welcoming back The SAS Band and as always hoping for some surprises too!”

Since the first concert in 2012, ‘Concert at the Kings’ has raised a total of £112,550 with this year’s donations going towards Bristol Hospitality and Support Charity, Above and Beyond’s new fund Act to Beat Cancer, and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The music will kick start at 2.00pm with Hayd‘n’Bee, followed by Marmalade Phoenix Club, Big Country, Meeking, 10CC, True Heights, Suzi Quatro with special guest Andy Scott, and concluding at 9.30pm with The SAS Band and guests including Fish, Patti Russo, Hamish Stuart and Chris Thompson. The acts will be spread across the Main and Evolution stages.

Spike Edney of The SAS Band and musical director for Queen said: “We’re delighted and honoured to be asked to close the show for the third time. We’ve had some electrifying performances over the years and we’re sure that this year’s line up will deliver some more musical moments of the highest calibre. It’s also exciting to help Grubby with this worthy cause.

“The fun starts at All Cannings on Sat 21st May. Get your ticket now and don’t miss a great day of music, mirth and mayhem! See you there!”
